Do The Kids Have A Good Clothes Inventory?

Before we max out the credit card or put out the cash for school clothes, it's good to find out what the children can still wear. The first thing to do is take a clothes inventory. And, what will they need for this school year? And of course our kids will say, "But it's so out of style. My clothes are so 'last year'. You as the parents are going to have to draw the line when it comes to this factor. This will vary from family to family, but if you have several kids, you might have to buy only what you need. (Sorry kids, but that's the way it is!)

You don't want to spend more than what is needed and especially if you're working on a tight budget. So it's really important to take an inventory. Could it be that you child can even cut down on the clothes that he or she has? How many times have you looked for a shirt or some pants and when you finally emptied the dresser drawer, it looked like a tornado hit the room, just looking for that one shirt or pants. So, minimizing their clothing can lead to more organization and less waste. How many times have you gone through their closet and found a shirt or a dress that hasn't been worn in years because it was 'so-last-year' or didn't fit?

Now, you can make this interesting. Why not start your clothes inventory with a fashion show. Your kids can try on all their clothes and make sure they have shirts or blouses that match everything that still fits. Keep track of what they have and what they will need. You can have your fashion show be simple or fancy, but the thing is, have your children try on their clothes, and make sure they still fit, and even if they fit, make sure they are not worn out.

When you are going through their clothes, don’t forget to pay attention to belts and accessories that they need for their outfits. And look for shirts and pants that can be mixed to make different outfits.

You know what's good too? Deciding, in advance, how many pants and shirts each child needs. Needless to say, the girls are most likely to have more clothes than the boys, in most cases. Let's say a miracle happens and your kids don't need anything! You might let them pick out a new outfit anyway. This will make your kids feel real good at heart. I mean, after all, going back to school without anything new to wear? "What's with that?", you're children might say.

Yes, taking a clothes inventory is a great help before you begin to shop for school clothes. It lets you know what your children have and the essentials that you need to make sure to pick up.
